A Message from Yamada Sensei

Yoshimitsu Yamada

How was your summer? I hope you had a good one. Mine was, as usual, quite busy. This summer in 2 months I did 4 seminars in different countries. It's no doubt that it is getting a little but too tough for me, but I still enjoy every single moment. When I came back from my long trips, there were tons of emails, faxes and regular mail sitting on my desk. I am an old fashioned guy, so I appreciate regular mail more than new technology. Although 2/3 of the mail is just junk mail, when I see a personal letter, especially with a hand written address, I feel some excitement about opening it. However, I must say that when I see that it is obviously a woman's handwriting on the envelope, it takes me a while to open it. I feel self-conscious or excitement, probably both. Anyway, it makes me feel so happy if the letter is a complimentary note or one saying thank you. However, I regret that there are also times when I see I letter, I feel I shouldn't open it!

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Sharon Kanai and members of New England Aikikai for their good job hosting summer camp for such a long time. At the same time, I feel it is time to make some changes, focusing summer camp on the new generation, and bringing back people's interest and enthusiasm. As for next year's camp, many people have asked New York Aikikai to organize it for the USAF. The good news is that it will be held at Roger Williams College in Rhode Island. We will do our best to meet members' expectations, and needless to say we need your help, support, and opinions in order to reach that goal.

I hope you have a good fall season.
